Marriage Preparation

The Marriage Course

Parentalk, the parenting course, is designed to give parents the opportunity to share their experiences, learn from each other and discover some principles for parenthood. This informal course runs on weekday evenings over 8 weeks. We may be able to arrange babysitters so as many parents are able to attend as possible.

"This easy-to-use course looks at real situations which practising parents
will recognise and offers practical, helpful tips and suggestions. Whether you
are a parent now, or about to become one, this is definitely a course to try."
David Butler, Director, National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations

"A practical, common-sense and reliable resource - if only all parents
had access to something as good as this."
Dr John Tripp, Consultant Paediatrician & Senior Lecturer in Child Health, University of Exeter

The Marriage Preparation Course is for any engaged couple who wants to develop strong foundations for a lasting marriage. Over five evenings spent together you will learn important tools that will enable you to make your marriage work. The evenings are very relaxed. There is a meal followed by short talks interspersed with exercises and questions for you to discuss together as a couple.

The Marriage Course is very practical, providing the tools to build a strong and healthy marriage. It gives an opportunity to discuss things that can get swept under the carpet with the busy-ness of everyday life. It starts with a candlelit meal, followed by a talk and an opportunity for private discussion (no group work). This course is based on Christian principles, but is suitable for those with or without a Christian faith.

Some comments from people who have been on The Marriage Course recently:

“We really enjoyed the course. It's a great opportunity to just have quality time in a very pleasant and relaxed environment to focus us on ourselves as a couple, prompted by the course material... and the food was great - you can't go wrong!”

"A great opportunity to remember that a strong marriage is the best gift that you can give to your children"

"Having children can easily take over your life, this course gave us the opportunity to remember that we need to be a partnership in everything that we do, but also taught us that we need to have time together and not feel guilty, as it ultimately benefits the whole family"

Mark adds: "Rosalie and I did the course as participants a few years ago and really enjoyed it, not least having an evening just to be with each other. The material is excellent - we'd fully recommend it to any couple, whether you've been together 2 or 20 years (or more)."

If you have any questions, do speak with Mark or Rosalie about the course. There will be a suggested charge to cover materials, food, etc, but if that's not affordable that will not be a problem.

The Marriage Course begins on Thursday 25th February, at St. Peter's.
