Brian Rose's Retirement

Brian Rose will be formally retiring on 18th April this year and we will mark that retirement at St Peter’s and St Mark’s, details to follow nearer the time. I have asked Brian to say something about this in his own words: "The receiving of the Reader Emeritus status is, as far as the Diocese is concerned, a closing chapter of the office of reader in retirement. But...from the point of view of the parish, it is as final, or not as the parish wants it to be. I have been involved in some area of church service since I was 10 years old and I am now 83. So I think it time to slowdown before I lose all my marbles, and have to make an undignified exit. Meanwhile, I am at liberty to continue to support the ministry at St Marks, together with Pat, for as long as it takes to connect up continuity, in as smooth and agreeable way as possi-ble; or of course until I am no longer physically able. Service in Christ is like the old ad-age ‘Old Soldiers never die; they only fade away!!!’ Brian”

Please do continue to pray for Pat and Brian during this time of transition, we are so grateful to them for their continued ministry and love for people in the church. Mark

St Peter's Projector Operators

We are looking for a couple of more people to join the rota to operate the computer and projector during services at St Peter's. You do not have to be a technical expert to do this. All that is required is some familiarity with using conventional Windows applications, as full training and support to operate the very intuitive and simple to use EasyWorship system which we use, will be provided. If you are interested in this opportunity to help support the worship within St Peter's, and would like to have a chat about it, please contact Tony May (01628 636453, ab-may@talk21.com), or speak to any of the operators you see during services.

Hospitality

We're looking for volunteers to help serve refreshments at St Peter's after Sunday services. At the moment this is the responsibility of Connect groups (and ID) but we'd like to change this to give people a break. We are looking for a commitment to help out once a month on a regular basis. The duties would involve preparing beforehand, serving and then clearing up afterwards. Ideally we would like to set up four teams for the first to fourth Sundays of each month and a reserve team for when there's a fifth Sunday. If you would like to be a part of this please contact David Robinson (621918) or Jeremy Stevens (620674).

Things to Borrow

The church website has a page highlighting where you can borrow (on an infrequent/one-time use basis) items from other church members. Click here or check out Things to Borrow in the Resources and Links section. Once you've found what you need, contact the relevant person (contact details in the church Address List). If you have any items you would like to offer for loan purposes please contact Cat on benandcat@hotmail.co.uk

St Peter's Pastoral Visiting Team

At St Peter's we have a small pastoral visiting team who go to see people who, for example, are housebound in some way, or in hospital, or who have suffered bereavement. If you would be interested in joining this team, please speak to either its coordinator Christine Berry (627161) or Mark Balfour. You do not necessarily have to be available during the day to be part of the team.

Welcomers Wanted

We are always looking for volunteers to help welcome people into our church, but we would be delighted if you are new(ish) to the church and can remember how it feels walking in for the first time. If you are good at making people feel at home and like meeting people then you would be a great asset to the welcome team. We run a rota so you'd be on duty about every six weeks. The duties involve arriving about half an hour before the service to make sure everything is ready; welcoming people in and handing out bulletins and any other notices, finding places for people when the church is getting full, and helping to tidy up afterwards. We shall be running a training evening in the near future to fill in more details. If you can help please contact David Robinson (621918), Jeremy Stevens (620674) or the church office (784053).

Debt and money worries

There is now a page on the church website http://www.real-life.org.uk/money.htm - which provides links to groups providing help and support. If you have any worries or anxieties about the credit crunch, personal debt or other money issues you might value a confidential conversation and/or prayer about this. You can also be given some signposting as to where to go for specialist help. Please feel free to contact Mark either directly or through the church office or leadership team.
