OCP Fun(d) Raising – Are you up for the Challenge?

The Open Church Project is a challenge to all of us. Whilst we meet the challenge of fundraising we hope we can have some fun along the way. Today is the launch of the 10:10 Challenge. Information about this will be given out at the start of the services and anyone (and everyone) is invited to join in. Look out for envelopes! Homemade jams are on sale in St Peter’s today. Look out for further sales over the coming months as people organise them. The Fun(d) raising Notice Board in St Peter’s will have information about forthcoming events and fun(d) raising ideas and a calendar will be published for both Churches and on the website. We need your inspiration and participation! Stephen and Hazel Cronbach have agreed to co-ordinate fun(d) raising over the next couple of years. If you have any questions or ideas for fun(d) raising, please contact them on 01628 636947

Please contact Kate Sharples if you're interested (782169) kate.sharples@btinternet.com

Opportunity to join the 9:30am team

The 9:30 congregation has an interactive 30 min service aimed at families with younger children, followed by craft and refreshments. You don't need to have children and there's no age restriction! Just a desire to serve the families who come and build relationships with them through welcoming and packing up, helping children do craft, the odd social and anything else you can bring to the team! It's great fun and only once a month. To find out more, please contact Kate Sharples (782169) kate.sharples@btinternet.com

Marriage Course

This popular course starts again at St Peter’s at 7.45pm on the following dates: Thursdays 16th, 23rd and 30th September, 14th and 21st October, 11th and 18th November. For further information please contact Alan or Marion Jell on 541179.

Summer church

As in the past 3 years, for the six Sundays of the school summer holidays – 25th July to 29th August – there will be no young church at the mid-morning St Peter's services. Among other things, this enables the hardworking young church team to have a break. Each service will be for all ages in scope and with some-thing, we hope, for everyone. A slightly simpler structure, a bit shorter, including well known songs and hymns and interactive talks with a theme running throughout: this year we'll be looking at six stories from the Old Testament, each to do with a different country. Please note that the all age worship will include communion on both 1st and 22nd August, not the second Sunday (8th Aug) as is usual. Can I encourage you if you are around through the summer, even if this is not your 'preferred style' of worship, to come to worship the Lord, be open to the Spirit and participate as part of the church family. Mark

Open Church Project

Over the past weeks members of the church have been committing them-selves very generously to the project. The total now stands at:

Committed giving for the Open Church Project:
£222,132 (over 4 years)

Committed giving for the Partnership project
£15,155 (over 4 years)

Together committed giving so far totals £237,287

We should be able to recover gift aid of around £ 24,000.
We have also been offered loans of £80,000 to cover costs during the building period. These would need to be paid back over the following 4 years.
This is a hugely encouraging start to our projects. Committed giving sheets continue to come in from the church. We have also started the 10-10 challenge and other Fun(D)raising. If you need more information, check the bulletin or speak to Stephen and Hazel Cronbach or to the Church Wardens. [NB – if you wish to contribute to the partnership project but forgot to tick the box, please get back to the treasurer

The Bridge Trust

is looking to add a number of new Trustees to its existing Board. In the current climate of spending cuts this would be a great way of helping local churches to fill the gap. Please see flyer at the back of both church buildings.

Homeless Lunches

Sue Brett (from Churches Together in Maidenhead) and Nigel Cohen (member of Maidenhead Synagogue) are setting up lunch sessions for the homeless and/or needy in Maidenhead. They are desperate for helpers. Would you be able to help for approximately 4 hours a month? Other-wise you might be able to donate food or money. The exact venue and day are yet to be arranged and further details together with a flyer will be available shortly. Anyone who can help can either contact Sue Brett on 01628 623554 email. susanbrett4@aol.co.uk or Nigel on 01628 660665 or email gnc@softwaredesign.co.uk. For donations of money please go to www.purecharity.org/homeless (for further details regarding WAMCF please go to wamcf.org.uk).

Street Angels Maidenhead

If you have expressed interest in being involved with the Street Angels project and already given your contact details, you should be hearing from the project team soon - especially if you have offered time. We are looking for volunteers to form the initial teams to go on the streets later this year. If you think you might be interested in that, please speak to Mark as soon as possible.

Jesus in our Midst

Jesus said 'where two or three are gathered in my name I am in the midst.'
(Matthew 18:20) This is held every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at
St Peter's  from 8.00 - 9.30pm. It is a gathering of people who want to
worship, pray and seek God's presence in a relaxed environment.
There is no set worship or prayers. We come along and listen to God, worship,
and pray. You are free to come and go as you like. There is also
individual prayer ministry available. Refreshments are also provided.
See our facebook page Jesus in our Midst. Any questions please call
Debbie 01628 532080 or Beth 01628 674654.

Youth and Children’s Work

In September we know that we will need help in a variety of ways with the youth and children’s work. Please pray as to whether God may be asking you to join us in this exciting work - no previous experience necessary! Opportunities in several age groups, both on a Sunday and mid-week. For more details see Ben Dale or Margaret Hyde.

St Peter's Projector Operators

We are looking for a couple of more people to join the rota to operate the computer and projector during services at St Peter's. You do not have to be a technical expert to do this. All that is required is some familiarity with using conventional Windows applications, as full training and support to operate the very intuitive and simple to use EasyWorship system which we use, will be provided. If you are interested in this opportunity to help support the worship within St Peter's, and would like to have a chat about it, please contact Tony May (01628 636453, ab-may@talk21.com), or speak to any of the operators you see during services.

Hospitality

We're looking for volunteers to help serve refreshments at St Peter's after Sunday services. At the moment this is the responsibility of Connect groups (and ID) but we'd like to change this to give people a break. We are looking for a commitment to help out once a month on a regular basis. The duties would involve preparing beforehand, serving and then clearing up afterwards. Ideally we would like to set up four teams for the first to fourth Sundays of each month and a reserve team for when there's a fifth Sunday. If you would like to be a part of this please contact David Robinson (621918) or Jeremy Stevens (620674).

Things to Borrow

The church website has a page highlighting where you can borrow (on an infrequent/one-time use basis) items from other church members. Click here or check out Things to Borrow in the Resources and Links section. Once you've found what you need, contact the relevant person (contact details in the church Address List). If you have any items you would like to offer for loan purposes please contact Cat on benandcat@hotmail.co.uk

St Peter's Pastoral Visiting Team

At St Peter's we have a small pastoral visiting team who go to see people who, for example, are housebound in some way, or in hospital, or who have suffered bereavement. If you would be interested in joining this team, please speak to either its coordinator Christine Berry (627161) or Mark Balfour. You do not necessarily have to be available during the day to be part of the team.

Debt and money worries

There is now a page on the church website http://www.real-life.org.uk/money.htm - which provides links to groups providing help and support. If you have any worries or anxieties about the credit crunch, personal debt or other money issues you might value a confidential conversation and/or prayer about this. You can also be given some signposting as to where to go for specialist help. Please feel free to contact Mark either directly or through the church office or leadership team.
